Barefoot bowls a hit for charity at the Hali

HALEKULANI Bowling Club co-operated with Buff Point resident Matthew Ross on Sunday to stage a charity barefoot bowls day which raised $460 in cash and $150 worth of non-perishable food items for the Samaritans Foundation.

Sixty novice bowlers enjoyed the roll ups under the watchful eye of coach and internationally rated lawn bowler Aaron Sherriff.

"I wanted to raise money for the needy in our community and David English from the bowls club co-operated with me to stage the barefoot bowls," Mr Ross said.

The fund-raising event was attended by the member for Swansea Robert Coombes and the food and money has benefited the emergency relief of the Samaritans Foundation at Gorokan.

Volunteer help on the day was provided by the Budgewoi Scouts and Girl Guides, Mr Ross said.

Next year he intends to run a similar fund-raising event for surf lifesaving.
