MUSICIAN Jonny Gardiner is running his own School of Rock, teaching Central Coast kids how to perform like professional rock stars.
Gardiner, of Wyoming, is committed to teaching children the classic rock hits and said he found inspiration for the classes through the Jack Black character in the movie School of Rock.
"I wanted to build a school that teaches children the background behind the music," Mr Gardiner said.
"My school is loosely based on the movie but it's also about the music. It's easy for kids to learn where to place their fingers on the guitar for different songs because it's on the internet. I wanted to do more than teach kids the songs, I want them to know how the song is created musically."
Mr Gardiner's Rock God Music School runs weekly hour-long classes at Wyoming's Mad Cow Theatre where students aged nine to 18 are encouraged to release their inner rock stars.
"Students learn a different song each week and at the end of class they all stand up and play the songs," he said.
Mr Gardiner has been a part of the Sydney live music scene for 15 years, and is a member of The Footy Show's house band which performs live to air on Channel Nine every Thursday night.
[PI9017] The Rock God Music School students will perform today (Thursday) at The Hive in Erina Fair from 2pm.
